Patricia Jeffery
is Professor of Sociology at the University of Edinburgh,
and the author of

and (with Roger Jeffery)
Labour Pains and Labour Power: Women and Child-bearing in
Rural North India.
She is the co-editor (with Amrita Basu) of
Resisting the Sacred and the Secular: Women's Activism and Politicised
Religion in South Asia
(Kali for Women, 1999).
