AMRITA BASU is Professor of Political Science and Women’s and Gender Studies at Amherst College, USA. She is the author of Two Faces of Protest: Contrasting Modes of Women’s Activism in India and the editor of The Challenge of Local Feminisms: Women’s Movements in Global Perspective (Kali for Women, 1999). With Patricia Jeffery she has co-edited Resisting the Sacred and the Secular: Women’s Activism and Politicised Religion in South Asia (Kali for Women, 1999)
