SHAMSIE
Muneeza
Shamsie was born in Lahore, educated in
England and has lived in Karachi for the most
of her life. She has given much thought to
issues of colonialism, culture, language and
gender, which has strongly influenced her
writing and her interest in South Asian English
literature. Since 1982 she has been a regular
contributor of freelance articles, interviews
and book reviews to
Dawn.
She also writes for
Newsline
and
She.
Her work has appeared in
Arts and the Islamic World, The Herald, Himal,
Index on Censorship, The Muslim, The News, Zameen
and The Toronto Review.
Her writing covers a wide range of subjects, ranging from
archeology and architecture to education, health and
development issues, but her main focus has been
literature. She is the editor of
And the World Changed: Contemporary Stories by
Pakistani Women (Women Unlimited, 2008).
